build it once. run it again.

Create a workflow, test its steps, and publish it for yourself or your team.

Describe what you want to automate

Choose Build manually if you want to write the steps yourself.

  1. Open Workflows in the sidebar and choose Create workflow.
  2. Describe the repeatable task, the result you want, and any information that should change between runs. Add relevant documents or project context.
  3. Work with the workflow chat to clarify the task, then open the draft in the editor.

Try asking

Create a Revit workflow that finds doors with missing fire ratings. Ask for the level to check each time, then report the door IDs and types without changing the model.

Start from something you just did

You can also ask in a normal chat to turn the task you just completed into a workflow. Arkyv uses the conversation to create an editable draft. Open the workflow, review its steps and inputs, then test and publish it.

Try asking

Create a workflow from what we just did. Ask me which level to check each time.

Review the steps and application

Draft edits save automatically. Check the save status before leaving the editor.

  1. Give the workflow a clear title and description.
  2. Check Runs in: choose the required design application for work on a live model, or Anywhere for work that does not require a plugin.
  3. Review each step’s title and instructions. Use Add step or the step actions to edit, reorder, or remove steps.
  4. Use Overall agent instructions for guidance that applies throughout the workflow. Ask Workflow chat to help refine the draft.

Define what changes between runs

A workflow connected to Revit, Rhino, or Archicad uses the active model through the plugin. Do not add a model-file upload to substitute for that connection.

  1. Add inputs for values the person running the workflow should provide, such as a level, naming prefix, or distance. Choose the input type, defaults, and whether it is required.
  2. Add file sources for documents that should be supplied when running the workflow. Give each source a label and explain what belongs there.
  3. Check Inputs used and Sources used on the steps that need them.
  4. Review Pinned regulations under Context if the same regulations should be included on every run.

Test the draft

A draft test runs with normal permissions and can make real model changes. Use an appropriate test model and review approval requests. Testing does not update the published workflow.

  1. If the workflow needs a design application, open it in that application’s Arkyv panel with the intended model open.
  2. Choose Test draft in the editor.
  3. Review Context, fill in Inputs, and attach the requested Files and sources.
  4. Choose Start draft test and inspect the result in the chat, model, or generated files.
  5. Adjust the draft and test again until the steps produce the intended result.

Publish when it is ready

Publishing makes a version available for regular runs. Later draft edits stay separate until you choose Publish changes.

  1. Choose Publish in the editor.
  2. Choose Publish for me to keep the workflow private, or Publish to organization to make it available to your team when you have permission.
  3. Check that the workflow is marked Published.

Run a published workflow

Regular runs use the published version, even when the editor has unpublished changes.

  1. Open Workflows and find the task in Your workflows, Organization workflows, or Arkyv workflows. Use search and the status filter to narrow the list.
  2. Check which application the workflow needs. For a model task, open the workflow inside that application with the intended model active.
  3. Choose Run. Review the context, inputs, and files for this run.
  4. Choose Start workflow and follow its progress in chat. Review any approval requests and check the output.

Improve a workflow without changing live runs

The library distinguishes Draft, Published, and Unpublished changes so you can see which workflows still need attention.

  1. Open the workflow for editing when you have permission.
  2. Update the draft and use Test draft to check the changes.
  3. Choose Publish changes when the new version is ready for regular use.
